INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE - INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT OFFICE (IPO-ITSO)

LEGAL MANDATE

The University of Eastern Philippines-Intellectual Property Office (UEP-IPO) was created by Office Order No. 45, series 2011 dated November 22, 2011 upon recommendation of the University Research Council embodied in URC Resolution No. 2, series 2011 and confirmed by the UEP Board of Regents under UEP-BOR Resolution No. 48, series 2011, to manage and administer the intellectual property system of the University. In October 16, 2012, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was forged by and between the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines and the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), the UEP had been chosen as one of its member of the Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) Network in the Philippines, thus, establishing the UEP as one of its partner institution in servicing specific areas and institutions with high potential for patent and other related activities, hence, became UEP-Intellectual Property Office-Innovation and Technology Support Office (UEP IPO-ITSO).

MANDATED FUNCTIONS

  • Assist creators/inventors in applying for and securing a copyright/patent registration for their work, including the preparation of documents required.

  • Implement the IPR Policy and Guidelines and revise/modify/amend the same when the circumstances necessitate.

  • Serve as focal unit to which all IPR issues shall be addressed.

  • Maintain a library of issuances/legislations relative to IPR protection, including a record of all works for which copyright/patent have been applied and approved.

  • Conduct activities to discuss PR concerns and disseminate IPR policies.

  • Maintain a website for online inquiry, regular publication of all works and applications for copyright/patent.

  • Publish a quarterly report on applications filed and approved, processed and owned by UEP, and those waived in favor of author and inventor.

GOAL

To ENSURE the PROTECTION and SECURITY of the INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS of faculty, employees and students as patent/copyright owners of works they created for academic and commercial purposes.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To serve as focal unit to which all Intellectual Property (IP) matters in the university shall be addressed.

  2. To implement the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Policy and Guidelines and revise/modify/amend the same when the circumstances necessitate.

  3. To provide high quality and responsive IP services to faculty, employees and students in the university.

  4. To assist creator/inventors in applying for and securing a patent/copyright registration for their work, including the preparation of documents required and facilitate payment of fees.

  5. To maintain a library and publication of issuances/legislations relative to IPR protection, including a record of all works by faculty, employees and student for which copyright/patent have been applied and approved.

  6. To promote awareness of intellectual property rights of the individual, and a respect for the rights of others.

DOST - PCAARRD RAISE PROGRAM

UEP VP for RDE Dr. Karina Milagros Lim and UEP IPO-ITSO team is attending the DOST-PCAARRD Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program Inception Meeting. Together with our regional partner, ViCARP, the university is proposing to establish IP-TBM Operations. This research project aims to strengthen the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management of the university and within the regional consortium. This project is funded by PCAARRD for 2 years.
